Building Learning Power

Here at Honiton Primary School we believe in helping pupils develop learning habits that will prepare them for a lifetime of learning in school and in life outside and beyond. Our approach is to build the learning power of our pupils. Based on the research of Professor Guy Claxton we aim to teach children to know how to help themselves when they face challenges or new situations.

We create better learners by cultivating four learning habits:

  • Resilience

  • Resourcefulness

  • Reflectiveness

  • Reciprocity

This means helping young people build up the mental, emotional, and social resources to enjoy challenge and cope well with uncertainty and complexity. We believe that all young people are capable of developing this confidence, capability, and passion and we do this through our learning superheroes and the learning superpowers that they use.
