  • Reception Farm Trip

    Full CalendarReception

This event will take place between 9:15am and 3:00pm on 15/07/2026

On Wednesday 15th July we are planning to take Reception to Drake’s Farm in Crockernwell on the outskirts of Exeter. This visit links to our early years curriculum and allows every child in the year to ‘experience’ the wonders of a working farm.

The farm will be closed to the public and only used by us for the day. The children will take part in a ‘Little farmers’ session with Farmer Kim and Farmer Colin and will support them with feeding and caring for the animals. They will also take part in related craft activities and will get to explore the site that includes a large sand pit, play tractor and play park area all set in the heart of Dartmoor with beautiful views of the landscape around. The children will get to experience the joys of a farm first hand and will be given opportunities to experience farm animals, jobs and equipment first hand. This will support every child's memory, learning and development across many areas of ‘Understanding the World’ which build the foundations of scientific principles.

Thanks to our wonderful PTFA subsidising each child, the cost of the trip will be £6.70 per child. Please note that if we do not get enough payments to cover the cost of our transport, the trip will not be able to go ahead.

The trip will be taking place during the school day. So drop off and collection times will be the same as normal. We will return ready for usual school collection time at 3:20pm. If there is any delay you will be contacted by text so please ensure we have your up-to-date mobile phone number.

Your child will require a packed lunch. If your child is entitled to free school meals based on income criteria you will shortly be sent a link to the survey for you to complete to order your packed lunch. We will also take fruit snacks. Please provide your children with a named drinks bottles to help keep them hydrated.

If your child requires any additional medication for the trip, please let us know in advance.

The farm is designed for children and has large covered areas for eating and playing in any weather such as heat or rain. Mud suits and wellie boots will be essential. Sun hats and sunscreen will be needed if the weather is hot, and waterproofs and additional layers if the weather is cold or wet. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast nearer the time so that your child is suitably prepared.

We will be keeping a close eye on the weather reports nearer to the time and will be in touch via Tapestry to advise on clothing and equipment needed.

Your child will not need any additional money on this trip.

Please use the Payments section of your Weduc app to make your payment and give your consent to your child attending the trip. The deadline for payment is Friday 3rd July. It is essential that we receive contributions from all parents in order for the trip to go ahead as the school is not in a position to cover any shortfall. If you are struggling to meet the cost of this trip, please do contact the school office to discuss any ways in which we may be able to help.
