Year 5 have been looking at influences and pressures with regards to drugs, alcohol and smoking as part of our PSHE lessons. We have been discussing how it is important to think carefully about the messages we see in the media about drug use, as some may be misleading or confusing. Some sources warn about the dangers of drugs, while others may make them seem exciting or harmless. 

To spot mixed messages, we look at who is sharing the information - is it a trusted source like a doctor or a news website, or is it just someone’s opinion online? We should pay attention to the language used - are they exaggerating or leaving out important details?
