Bones The Hippo

Bones The Hippo

Bones is our much loved school mascot. He is an important part of our school community and regularly visits assemblies, sports days and other key events in our school year.

Why a hippo? We chose a hippo as our school mascot as it links back to some of Honiton’s history. 140,000 years ago, when the climate in Honiton was more like that of Africa, hippos, along with large deer, oxen and elephants roamed the area.

Fossils of hippo bones discovered when the A30 was under construction can be found at the Allhallows Museum in Honiton.
