Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

A very warm welcome to each and every one of you joining us in Year Two in the academic year: 2021 - 2022.

Mr Evans and Miss McManus cannot wait to go on this new learning adventure with you where we have lots of exciting things planned across the year.  We will be wriggling and crawling, enjoyed the scents of a garden, discovering land, combing beaches for treasure as well as making some muck, mess and mixtures!

As part of our SOLE learning for Beachcombers, we will be having a go at a range of activities, one of which is completing a 'scientific drawing' of a sea shell using pencils for sketching and shading.  Below you will find a video to help support you in doing this. Have fun practising!

We can't wait to see what you produce! Good luck and have fun.

Children's Mental Health Week

From the 1st- 7th February is Children's Mental Health Week. The theme of this year's Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.

Scroll down to the Mental-Health and Well-being support section of this page.

Go to the resource page.

If you wish, send in any photos or videos of what you do to Express Yourself.

Hello Year 2!

We are so sorry you can't all be with us to start the new term. Hopefully this will go quickly and we can continue our learning together in school!

In the mean time we will be uploading videos and accompanying resources for your child to do at home. We will make sure these are on the website by 6pm the evening before so you have time to plan how it will work best for you. Please  also look on the video page for the videos on what to do for each lesson. We understand the difficulties of doing this whilst also working from home but appreciate you doing whatever you can.

We were so looking forward to seeing you after the holidays and really miss you! Please send in photos of the learning you do to or keep hold of it to show us when we can open again.

Thank you for your support and we can't wait to see you again soon!

We are so sorry we cannot spend the last week of term in school with you. Whilst your safe at home as our year group bubble isolates, we hope you'll continue to have fun learning and being creative! This week, although we can't take part in Y2 Christmas crafts together, we have given you some activities to complete with materials that you can easily find in your homes!

There will be a daily timetable uploaded here, with various lesson resources and videos to help you with your learning. Resources will be found here on our Year 2 page and video tutorials on Teaching & Learning > Video Resource Centre > Year 2.

We can't wait to see all of your hard work and wonderful learning, either via photographs and videos that you can send in to the admin email address: or in your workbooks when we are able to return to school.

Have lots of fun, keep reading and please stay safe!

Transition from Year 2 to Year 3

We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school in September. To help make this a smooth transition for all of our children, we have made some resources for you to look through and complete with your child. The story 'Safe in school' may be helpful if your child is feeling anxious about the return to school. We have made a shorter story as well, called 'Going back to school', that your child might prefer. There is also a 'Meet the teacher' document, a video from your child's new teacher, and a list of the new rules that we will be helping the children to follow in September. The week before school starts, we will be adding a video tour of your child's new classroom and key areas of the school to this page. Have a lovely summer, and we can't wait to see you all soon!

Phonics Resources

The DfE have put together some letters and sounds phonics videos including lessons and parent explanations to support phonics development during school closure.

A 20 minute lesson is being added each day at 10am for Phase 3 and Phase 5. They are funded by the DfE and are aligned to the same scheme that we use. It will be 12 weeks of summer term phonics teaching.

Click on the link to find these lessons. I hope you will find it useful!
