Relationships Week @ HPS
Dear parents and carers,
As a part of your child’s education at Honiton Primary School, we promote personal wellbeing
and development through a comprehensive, stautory, Personal, Social, Health and Economic
(PSHE) educational programme of study from Nursery to Year 6.
PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives your children the knowledge,
understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy and productive lives;
underpinned by healthy relationships, that support all children to achieve their full potential. I am
writing to let you know that on top of the termly units of work that your child studies in this area
of the curriculum, we shall also be holding our annual ‘Relationships Week @ HPS’ during the
week beginning the 23rd February. Throughout the week, your child’s SOLE lessons will focus
on PSHE.
All children, from Nursery to Year 6 will be taking part in lessons which follow the statutory
objectives that relate to ‘Relationships’ within the National Curriculum. Lessons in Nursery &
Reception will focus on the NSPCC’s PANTS resources that teach about Personal Space and
the Right to Feel Safe. Key Stage One pupils will engage in lessons that focus on, Growing
Up and Identifying Special People. Throughout Key Stage Two, the focus is on Friendships,
Healthy Relationships and Puberty (including Physical and Emotional Changes) All of the
lessons are well planned and resourced by Medway County Council in collaboration with the
PSHE Association (an accredited Dept. of Education partner). They are designed to be
delivered in a safe learning environment that is underpinned by our school ethos and values.
I would like to invite you, on behalf of the staff team at HPS, to attend a parent information
meeting on Friday 13th February @ 3.30-4.00pm in the Small Hall (to the rear of school by
the EYFS Garden) to find out more about what your child will learn during the week. At this
informal session, you will have the opportunity to view the materials and resources being used
in lessons and discover how you can best support your child to discuss these topics at home.
As a school community, we are committed to working in partnership with parents; parental
feedback (that can be viewed on the school website) has indicated that the overwhelming
majority of parents continue to be highly supportive of the PSHE and Relationships programme
that we deliver. If you have an interest in this area of education or would like to find out more
and discuss any concerns, we would urge you to attend the information meeting and we look
forward to seeing you there.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Mr. Nic Lopez (PSHE lead teacher
