Reception - Coming to England - A story for young children to introduce Black History Month

To signify the start of Black History Month the children listened to the story of Floella Benjamin’s early childhood and her migration to England in the 1960’s. An honest account of feeling scared at having to leave home as a child and hurt by some people’s comments to her and her friends because of the colour of her skin; her story made us all think at taught us a lot about our values, rights and responsibilities. She did however get to meet the queen as a grown-up this fulfilling a childhood dream!
