In Reception we have a passion for teaching children new skills! Today in Mini-Maths we learnt about using ‘Part, Part, Whole’ as a way to help us add together two groups of objects. This is called a concrete maths strategy because we are using resources to physically solve the problem. As we get older we move onto pictorial and abstract ways to investigate maths at a greater depth. After the skill has been modelled by the teacher the children have a go themselves. What we hope to see after that is children applying the skill independently in their play.
