  • World Book Day

    Fri 15 Mar 2024 E. Long

For World Book day, we had lots of fun! Each year group paraded around the school twice showing their creative and imaginative outfits. The children had the opportunity to share their books with other children in their class and in other year groups to discuss who their favourite characters are!

  • Year 5: The Earth is the centre of the universe discussion

    Wed 13 Mar 2024 E. Long

The children enjoyed coming to the round table for a discussion upon the topic, 'The Earth is the centre of the universe'. They thought the original ideas of the Catholic Church came from a well-meaning place, as Jesus was so important to them and could be thought of as the centre of their world. They also discussed how, for people of the time, agreeing that the church was wrong would lead to them getting imprisoned, or might lead to other beliefs the church held also being questioned. We talked about how we have evidence today, even from as far back as the 1500s, that considers the Sun to be the centre of our universe, therefore refuting the discussion topic and proving it to be incorrect. With the increasingly better technology of today, scientists are able to explore further corners of our solar system and far-away galaxies. Some of the children even went on to share additional information from their own reading at home and ideas that included parallel universes!

  • Year 5  - Live Video Call - Moon and Mars Mission!

    Mon 11 Mar 2024 E. Long

Skyping live from the Spaceport Centre in Cornwall and broadcasting across the globe, Jo shared information on the current mission the new astronauts are working on with Year 5.

Excitedly, the children learnt all about the plans for the future years with the mission “Artemis” and how this includes creating livable pods on the moon!  We were also introduced to the next astronauts which included many from Great Britain, including two women and the first para-astronaut ever - having only one leg!

  • Year 3 Shadows Investigation

    Mon 11 Mar 2024 E. Long

Last week, Year 3 were learning all about light in our science lessons. We headed out in the sunshine to explore our own shadows and learnt how shadows are formed when an opaque object blocks light from the light source.

  • Year 1 World Book Day

    Mon 11 Mar 2024 E. Long

Year 1 had a brilliant day celebrating books and book characters. We got to parade around the school showing others our costumes. We also watched some videos of Julia Donalson and Axel Sheffler and what they do as authors and illustrators. We then had a go at being illustrators ourselves and followed along a step by step video to draw our own Gruaffalos!

  • Year 1 Collaging

    Mon 11 Mar 2024 E. Long

This week, Year 1 have enjoyed being arty! We learnt about collages and how we create them. We looked at an artist called Brianna McCarthy and discussed her collages. Afterwards, we had a go at experimenting and copying some of her work. Finally, everyone had a go at creating their very own collage of a superhero’s face. Everyone did such an amazing job and we were so impressed - have a look at some of them here!

  • Year 5 World Book Day!

  • Year 5 - Exploring Orbits!

    Thu 07 Mar 2024 E. Long

We have embarked on our new learning journey of Space Exploration and what better way than to learn about orbits than to get outside and be the planets, sun and moon!

We explored the different orbits of the moon, Earth and planets in relation to the sun and one another and looked at how each planet takes a different amount of days to orbit the sun.

Did you know that it only takes Mercury 88 days to orbit the sun, whilst Earth takes 365.25 days!

We had great fun re-enacting the solar system and discussing how each planet would have a different speed to orbit the sun, and how the Earth’s moon is also orbiting Earth over 29.5 days.

The children couldn’t believe it and quoted, “There’s just rotating, on rotation on rotation in space!” when they realised that Earth was also spinning on it’s own axis as well!
