In Reception we place a big emphasis on playing and learning together in a stimulating and exciting environment. We also talk a lot about being part of a ‘team’.
  • Snow Update - Collection arrangements from 13:15

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

    Dear All,

Due to a further change in the Met Office bulletin today an Amber warning for snow and wind is now in place across Honiton and East Devon from 2pm onwards with 3-7 inches of snow forecast to fall quite quickly. Amber warning represents a potential risk to property and life. We are therefore allowing parents to collect their children any time after lunch (1:15pm) in order that families can return home safely. If you cannot collect your child until the end of the day they will be kept safe here at school.

This decision has been made in conjunction with Littleton Primary as to provide continuity across the local primary schools.

Any parents wishing to collect after lunch will need to collect children from normal outside doors and see the class teacher to see them out safe "Our hand to your hand'. Year 6, who are upstairs, parents to main reception please.  All absence will be authorised.

Many thanks for your understanding.  Better safe than sorry, I am sure you will agree.

    Mr Tribble and the Governors.

  • Cancellation of After-school Club and Drumming lessons

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

    Dear All,

Due to the predicted inclement weather and the forecast not improving, we have made the difficult decision, with safety in mind, to cancel After School Club and Drumming lessons today.

If this does affect you and your family, please can you make the necessary arrangements for the collection of your child/children at normal time.

The office staff are telephoning everyone who has registered for today.

Many thanks for your understanding in these tricky times and do stayed tuned for current information.

  • Weather Update

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

    Dear All,

Currently, the weather at school is still settled and clear but I am most mindful of the children and staff who have to travel to be with us. Therefore, we are most avidly checking the updates and I have spoken with Honiton Community College who are considering their stance for this afternoon.  We will co-ordinate with them, if and when needed.

    Stay tuned please.

    Mr Tribble

  • Snow Procedures - Just in case you missed them.

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

School procedures in the event of snow during the night

If it snows heavily during the night and the roads into Honiton are affected, it is likely that the school will need to be closed, due to the lack of teaching staff able to get to school.

A text message will be sent to all parents by 7:30am. We will also post a message on the school website homepage and on the Devon County Council website.

If the school has to be closed, this will be for the whole day, whatever the change in conditions.

If conditions improve and the roads clear, you can assume that school will be open as normal the following day.

School procedures in the event of weather deterioration during a school day

If there is a serious deterioration in the weather during a school day (ie when the children are already in school), it is possible that after consultation with Stamps Coaches and the transport contractors, it might be necessary to send some children home early. If teachers need to drive home early it might be necessary to send all children home.

You will doubtless wish to prepare for such an eventuality by making arrangements to ensure that children always have somewhere to go if parents were not at home. Perhaps neighbours or friends would be prepared to help? We should be grateful if parents could ensure that their children are quite clear about such emergency arrangements.

A text message will be sent out as soon as a decision is made, and we will ensure that all bus children’s parents have confirmed with us that someone will be at the other end to collect their child. Please also be assured that local members of staff will remain in school until all children have gone home.

Please make sure that we have your up-to-date contact details and that you check your texts and/or the school website for closure information.

All absences due to snow where the school sends pupils home or closes will be authorised.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Tribble and the Governors

  • Weather Update

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

    Good Morning All,

A clear and frosty start to the day.

School is open as usual and Mr Brice is already gritting our paths and pavements to aid a safe arrival.  Both myself and the Governors have been in conversation this morning and are keeping abreast of updates from the Met Office and the Devon County Councils portals available to us.

We are quite aware that a weather front is moving through later, which could fall as either heavy rain with sleet or indeed snow. If it does comes through as snow then we will obviously consider the safety of children, collecting parents and commuting staff at the earliest venture.

Recently, a letter was sent regarding procedures in the event of snow and I will have this re-sent as a matter of course for those that perhaps missed it.

I will endeavour to keep you updated at least hourly and will liaise with Honiton Community College also as many of you will have children with us but also with them.

Wrap up, help the children pick out some boots perhaps and put some spare socks in their bag or pocket. Maybe an extra snack?

See you all shortly and take care.

    Mr Tribble and the Governors

  • Last call for passengers to warmer climates!

Wed 30 Jan 2019 The Reception Team

In Reception we are always asking our children, ‘what do you want to learn about?’ and ‘what do you want to find out more information about so you understand something? One of the questions that came up recently was, ‘how do planes fly?’ So using books, the internet and the grown-ups experience we learnt about the physics and forces involved in flight. So, today as some children chose to play in the snow, one young budding pilot in the making made his own airport with a couple of his co-pilots.
