    Pancake Club!

On the last day of term, we had our third successful pancake club down in our school woods. A child from each class were chosen for outstanding behaviour this half term, showing our school values and world readiness!

They learnt how to be safe around open fires. The children enjoyed adding the batter to the pan over the firepit, eating their pancake and drinking hot chocolate to celebrate the hard work that they have shown.

Well done to these amazing children!

Who will be our next outstanding learners for next term?

    Year 5 Youth Speaks Success

Our Year 5 Youth Speaks team should be feeling highly proud of themselves as they have just WON the Youth Speaks competition. They spoke against teams from a range of schools in the learning community. After a wonderful team performance and eloquent, well researched and rehearsed speeches they deservedly won.

This is hot on the heels of the Year 6 team coming a close runner up a few weeks ago once more indicating the high level of standards we support our pupils to reach at HPS.

    Well done team!!

    Year 2- Counting in Fractions

As part of our unit on fractions, we have been learning to count in fractions of a half. We had fun making our own number lines. We took away numbers for our partner to work out and add in the missing fraction. Ask us how to count in fractions of a half… 0, ½, 1, 1 ½ ….

Some of us even had a go at counting in quarters!

Year 2 took part in some collaboration activities in our woods. We worked together to navigate the woods, blindfolded! We had to use our perseverance and collaboration skills to be successful as well as employing our listening skills to hear instructions from our team.

In year 2, we have been exploring how to use a compass in Geography. We learnt how to find north, south, east and west. We then followed instructions that included north, south, east and west that led us along routes in the garden to go from one point to another to find an object.

  • Nursery make Carrot Soup!

    Mon 20 Feb 2023 E. Long

We had carrots left over from our snack last week, so we decided to make soup. The children cut up and grated the carrots and Mrs Rose cooked them with butter and water. When they were soft, we used the blender to puree the soup. The children were so brilliant at listening to the instructions of how to be safe when using the blender, and waited for their turn.

At last the soup was ready…yummy…or not…you can tell from their expressions!

  • Year 5 Science lesson at HCC

    Mon 20 Feb 2023 E. Long

Year 5 were really lucky to be able to go over to Honiton Community College and participate in the Nappies for NASA challenge in their science labs. They investigated different brands of nappies and decided which nappy would be best for astronauts to use when in space. The children were able to decide how to structure their investigation and what tests to use. Thank you, HCC!
