  • Bring a bucket- what a success!

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Miss Haley
I want to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to all the children and families that supported our, 'Bring a bucket' event this afternoon. It was a mammoth task - 10 tonnes of recycled Christmas tree chippings with the vision of transporting them into the school Woods to make some clear and natural paths. Despite it being the end of the week and drizzly weather the HPS family came out in force! Children, parents, families and staff lifted, heaved, scattered and transformed the floor of our woods into one that is now well covered, spongey and sweet pine smelling. It was a wonderful example of many hands making light (er) work and the enthusiasm and positivity of the everyone there was tangible. It made me so proud to be a part of the wonderful HPS family. Thank you so much for your time, energy and effort! Thank you to the PTFA for serving warm drinks and cakes to keep the troops going and thank you to Mr Tribble for sourcing the chippings and for having the idea. We have lots more plans to continue developing our magical woods so I will be in touch with you about that soon. I can't wait to show the children the transformation next week!
  • Year 4 - Exploring Vocabulary

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Miss McManus

As part of our new English sequence, we explored our new rich vocabulary. We worked out what each word meant from reading it within a context and matched it to its definition.  Next came the skill of remembering our new words so we came up with actions for each word.

Can an you guess which action goes with which word?

  • Bring a Bucket - tomorrow!!

Thu 30 Jan 2020 Miss Haley

We are looking forward to seeing lots of you after school tomorrow at the school woods to help put our 10 tonnes of free bark to good use. Please pop down after collection time and Mr Tribble and the team will be there to help you lay your part of our path. Our plan is to all collect a bucket of bark to help create clear pathway around our wonderful woods. The PTFA will be there with our tea and coffee tent if you would like to purchase a hot drink or cake. Bring your wellies and thank you in advance for helping us to make the most of the wonderful site we have.

  • Year 4 - Dreaming and Exploring!

Thu 30 Jan 2020 Miss McManus

We had a great time this afternoon making dreamcatchers and exploring electricity circuits!

Painting, hole-punching, threading, beading and feathering were the joyful activity for those that began making the dreamcatchers.  It was fiddly, but a lot of resilience was shown.

It was also the first time ever that we got to explore the different electricity components and at the start some of us were feeling a bit apprehensive that we may get electrocuted, but that feeling soon faded when the first lightbulb lit up!

In all, children managed to get lightbulbs lit, multiple buzzers going off (much to Miss McManus’ delight) at the same time and making spinners too.  The children absolutely loved this and can’t wait to explore again soon!

  • What can learn about the dinosaurs from animals that are living today?

Wed 29 Jan 2020 The Year One Team
Year One would like to say a massive thank-you to Mrs. Marler for bringing in some of her pets for us to look at. We thought about how her pets were similar to the dinosaurs that we have been learning about. We also learnt what a responsibility it is to care for these animals and how much attention they need. A great afternoon of learning.
