Amazing Donation from the Lions Club!

We have previously told you about the persuasive powers of Phoebe and Chloe from Year 6. They have been working incredibly hard again and have received an incredibly generous donation of £300 from the Lions Club! This will be going towards new books for the library.

Thank you so much to Mr Richards and his team for this wonderful sum of money which will make such a difference to our children.

    Pancake Club! (April 2023)

We had another successful pancake club down in our school woods. A child from each class were chosen for outstanding behaviour for this half term, showing our school values and world readiness!

After learning how to be safe around open fires, the children enjoyed adding the batter to the pan, eating their pancake and drinking hot chocolate to celebrate the hard work that they have shown.

Well done to these amazing children!

Who will be our next outstanding learners for next term?

  • V AND A Art Day

    Fri 28 Apr 2023 E. Long

Well what an exciting day! A selection of our children, from Year 1 to Year 6, were invited to take part in a virtual art lesson, provided by the V and A.

Along with Miss Browne, the children followed an “art-along”, focussing on the Caribbean artist Althea McNish. They designed their own murals, looked at exhibitions in the gallery and used shapes that they could see in the exhibitions to inspire their designs. They cut these shapes out of paper to make stencils and overlapped shapes to create a patterned finished piece.

  • Year 2 Pirate Day

    Fri 28 Apr 2023 E. Long

Year 2 enjoyed starting their new topic- Shiver Me Timbers! We took part in different activities throughout the day. We tried and evaluated different pirate foods, learnt a sea shanty, created our own treasure map, explored the properties of different materials that we might find on a ship, built a shelter after being stuck on a deserted island and wrote a letter asking to be rescued. Head on over to the Video Resource Centre on the website (pupil videos) to watch us sing our song!

  • Year 3 & 4 Quad Kids Athletics

    🏃‍♀️ Year 3 & 4 Quad Kids Athletics 🏃‍♂️

Despite the late cancellation of this cluster competition, the year 3 & 4 teams still had a chance to compete in their 4 athletics events on our school field this morning. A 50m sprint, a 400m endurance race, the standing long jump and the vortex throw really tested the speed, strength and power of our athletes - a great practice for what will hopefully be a rearranged fixture soon. Well done to everyone for adjusting quickly to the change in situation and for putting in all your effort and energy. 🙂

  • Do you know why Bones the Hippo is the mascot of Honiton Primary School?

Do you know why Bones the Hippo is the mascot of Honiton Primary School?

    Hippos Stop Traffic

Digging foundations for the Honiton bypass in the mid 1960's unearthed startling evidence that hippopotamuses, elephants and other large mammals inhabited the area around 120,000 years ago.

The leap of imagination needed to imagine East Devon with the same climate as Sub-Saharan Africa today is the starting point for an exciting creative collaboration between the The Allhallows Museum, Honiton Primary School,  The Blackdown Hills AONB, The Thelma Hulbert Gallery and local artist Alistair Lambert.

The Great Honiton Hippo will come back to life to process through town arriving at THG’s pocket park, rich in biodiversity to help mark the Earth Day celebrations on 22 April.

Come and join us this Saturday, showing your support for our children and these wonderful local organisations: this promises to be a really exciting event!

  • Our Very Own Honiton Hippo

    Tue 18 Apr 2023 E. Long

What an incredible creative journey our young artists have been on! Following a week of research trips, they spent a week in school with our resident artist, Alistair Lambert, and the wonderful Mrs Buss putting together the structure of our very own Honiton Hippo.

From willow weaving, to making casts from the actual hippo bones found under the A30, to drilling, fastening, bending and manipulating a range of resources… our movable sculpture is really taking shape.

Don’t forget, Earth Day is this Saturday coming- the 22nd April- why not join us as the hippo roams the streets of Honiton once more!

We will be starting at the school at 3pm, moving via All Hallows Museum, onto the Thelma Hulbert Gallery. All are welcome, we hope you can come and show your support!
