    Otterhead Lakes Art Visit.

Well, what a day! Continuing our research for the Wild Escape Project, the children from years 4 and 5 made their way by minibus to Otterhead Lakes today. There, we admired the wealth of different foliage and imagined how the land may have been for the Honiton Hippo, so many years ago.

We collected branches of fallen trees and shrubs, creating a makeshift canopy with them to shelter from the rain. We clambered along muddy trails, past the beautiful lakes, until we reached the forest, where children investigated the land: adding to existing shelters and collecting natural resources. From there, we continued to “The Dragon Tree”: a gnarled, fallen tree which, when looked at with the correct degree of imagination, resembles a dragon lying on the forest floor. Using our collected resources, the children set to work developing the dragon sculpture, in a wonderful collaborative piece of three dimensional art.

A simply wonderful day of investigation, imagination and collaboration. We can’t wait for more!

  • Selected Year 4 & 5 Pupils - The Wild Escape

    Tue 21 Mar 2023 E. Long

In conjunction with the Thelma Hulbert Museum, a selection of children from year 4 and year 5 have been invited to take part in a very exciting collaborative art event, as part of a national project entitled “The Wild Escape”.

Building towards a nationwide moment on Earth Day 2023, The Wild Escape invites primary school children (ages 7-11) to find a favourite animal in their local museum and create an artwork imagining its journey to a natural habitat.

Led by sculptor, Alistair Lambert, we began the research part of our project on Monday with a wonderful visit to All Hallows Museum. Here, we were welcomed by the incredibly kind volunteers, met the real life “Bones” the hippo, investigated the museum and sculpted our very own miniature hippos. What a wonderful start to our “Wild Escape” project! We can’t wait to show you what else we create as the project progresses!

  • Red Nose Day 2023 - 3-Legged challenge!

    Mon 20 Mar 2023 E. Long

    Red Nose Day 2023 - 3-Legged challenge!

The whole of the school collaborated in a fun morning of slips, trips and falls all in aid of comic relief! Smiles were the order of the day, and this is exactly what we got. The children were amazing!

The children completed 1295 laps (1 lap = 200m) resulting in 161 miles. As a school we managed to travel from HPS to the BBC studios in London where the programme was held. Although a little damp it didn't dampen our spirits nor the enjoyment, we had this morning. Well done team HPS.

  • Year 4 Singing at Exeter Cathedral

    Fri 17 Mar 2023 E. Long

On Saturday, Year 4 had the exciting opportunity to participate in a multi-schools singing event at Exeter Cathedral! We had been practising for weeks in school and even had a visit from some cathedral choristers who sang for us and answered our questions about what it's like balancing school and being a chorister. On the day, we rehearsed with the choristers and other school choirs at the cathedral and even got to hear the huge and impressive organ playing for us. The children sang brilliantly in their concert and we were so proud of their hard work and excellent behaviour on the day! Well done Year 4!

    Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Tournament

How lucky we were, yet again, to have a break in the weather for the final meeting of the local cluster schools in their tag rugby competition. There was plenty of action for the parents and spectators to enjoy which saw numerous tries being scored and plenty of defensive turnover ball drama! What a great afternoon - congratulations to all teams and players involved 🙂

  • Tesco Community Outreach

    Tue 14 Mar 2023 E. Long

On Monday afternoon, Mr Tribble and Miss Sansom accompanied two delightful Year 6 girls on a trip to Tesco. The girls had previously written to the team asking them to make a donation to our school which could be used for a gardening project and more playtime equipment. Because of the hard work and outstanding writing skills of the girls, Tesco have kindly donated a huge £500 to HPS! We are very grateful and would like to say a big thank you to Duncan and the Tesco team; we also say a big well done to Chloe and Phoebe for their dedication and diligence. Amazing!
