  • ⛺️ Year 6 Activity Group #1 ✨

    Sun 24 Sep 2023

A very excited group of year 6 children returned to school at 6pm on Friday night for an evening of activities before being the first group to sleep overnight in the yurt! The fire was lit in the woods for the children to enjoy Mr Tribble’s infamous pancakes 🥞 and sweet marshmallows were toasted, yummy 😋! The small hall was the next venue for ... zorbing! Strapped in & holding on tight, the sumo competition began - and wow, what fun it was! Staying on our feet became nigh-on impossible when others charged & bumped us over! And have you ever tried to play football while inside an inflatable ball? So many giggles with lots of laugh-out-loud moments! 😆 Even though it was getting late, the badminton & volleyball court was waiting ... and again, the good times continued with every one encouraging one another even though it became really quite competitive! Again, an abundance of smiles & laughter 😂! By 10pm, the energy was waning and so a story and biscuits around the log burner inside the yurt was just the best way to end the evening 📖 🔥 Most children slept all night, but there were some of us that were lucky enough to see the most beautiful crescent moon & starlit night sky 🌙✨

After a good tidy up, a hearty breakfast & a review of the antics, families arrived to pick everyone up ... home for a warm baths & more sleep! What a great way to begin our activity days - we can’t wait for more adventures next week! 😊

    Sun 24 Sep 2023

Our first inter-school competitive event took place last Friday with 24 children from years 3, 4, 5 & 6 representing HPS brilliantly. They channelled their adrenaline, overcame their nerves and they ran with focus & huge amounts of determination! The starting lines were busy, the supporting runners were loud with their cheers of encouragement and the final sprints led to some very tight positions across the finishing line! Superb efforts team, very well done for all of your great performances! 👏🏻

  • Year 5 - Planning an Experiment

    Wed 20 Sep 2023 E. Long

Wow!  What a start to our science learning!

We have been busy learning about forces in motion.  Last week we conducted an experiment linked to gravity and yesterday we planned our own science experiment linked to air resistance.  We had to think of our question, make a prediction and then consider what we would measure. Next, we had to make sure it was a fair test so we chose our variables and non-variables and discussed how it was important to test each way 3 times.

After we planned out our experiments, we got to put them into action with the help of Mrs Knight!  Due to the high winds, we knew it wouldn’t be fair to conduct it outside so with a bit of moving and shuffling we managed to do so inside!

Take a look at our photos and even our videos of our parachutes falling!

  • Year 5 - Conducting Research for our DT Project

    Wed 20 Sep 2023 E. Long

Year 5 have been busy conducting research in preparation for their DT project.  This half term, the children will be making a toy that includes a cam mechanism.  We have decided that our intended audience will be a child in Year 2, but we don’t know what they might like!

With that in mind, Year 5 were busy on the chromebooks creating an online quiz using GoogleForms that has been sent to Year 2 to answer!  They have included multiple choice, checkboxes and short answer questions for the children to consider and we all cannot wait to hear their responses!
