  • Children in Need - Wheel of Wax

    Tue 21 Nov 2023 E. Long

We love to support many worthwhile charities throughout the year and none other than Children in Need. Every year, we embrace new ideas and the creative mind of Mr Watson was busy at it again … and, the ‘Wheel of Wax’ was invented!

And what an incredible team of staff we have here at HPS - Mr Tribble, Mr Watson, Mr Hasler, Mr Evans, Mr Lopez, Mr Large and Mr Fallon - all brave, willing victims (volunteers!) to enjoy the warmth of the wax and endure the pain of the pulling; all under the professional eyes of Sam from ‘Hunters by S&L’ and Charlie from ‘Darling Beauty’. Thank you ladies for giving up your time & resources - it is very much appreciated.

And a huge THANK YOU to everyone else that supported our event: all those that patiently queued to drop their pennies into the buckets; all those that enjoyed hot drinks & cakes from the hard-working PTFA; and all those that cheered and groaned in equal measure! What a great way to raise money for a great cause! Thank you 🤩

    HPS Food Bank Collection

On Friday 1st December, we will be holding our annual food bank collection. On the first, we invite children and staff to wear non-uniform and bring a donation or two for the food bank. The smallest things go a long way in supporting people at this time of year.

Please check your emails for a letter containing lots more information about this event, along with a list of suggested food donations.

This is our ninth year of supporting the local community so a big thank you in advance for your kind donations!

  • Year 5 - Sharing our Music Creations

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 E. Long

For the past few weeks, Year 5 have been using BandLab to create their own soundtrack to a rollercoaster.  They have had to persevere and problem solve to accomplish their mission and they all did!  On Wednesday, our doors were open and parents were invited in to share what they have been getting up to.  Everyone was really impressed with what had been achieved - even older siblings who said they couldn’t believe children in Year 5 were creating such complex and detailed soundtracks already!

    Well done Year 5

  • Year 5 - Re-enacting the Battle of Bosworth

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 E. Long

On Monday, we launched our new learning journey of “Torturous Tudors”.  To be able to understand the start of the Tudor dynasty though, the children needed to learn about the Battle of Bosworth and the significance of this event in history.

Did you know that it was the start of the Tudor reign?

Did you know that it was the battle in which the last royal ever died?

Do you know how the war of the roses was ended?

If you see any of our Year 5’s, don’t be afraid to ask them about who was involved and how The Battle shaped English History!

  • Year 5 - French lessons

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 E. Long

This week we have moved on with our french learning of time and have introduced ‘et demie’ which means ‘and a half’.  We are now about to say o’clock and half past times as well as ask the question.  We learnt how the question can also be asked in both a formal and informal manner - can you figure out which one it is below?

    Quelle heure est-il ?

    Il est quelle heure?

  • Year 5 - Finding Verbs and Synonyms

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 E. Long

As part of their new writing topic of biographies, Year 5 have been busy using thesauruses to find synonyms for verbs they had found in their model text.  After doing this, they then decided which verb choice was the most formal as they understood that these needed to be used when writing a biography.

They worked collaboratively really well and made links with other learning too.

  • Year 3 Paignton Zoo!

    Mon 13 Nov 2023

On Friday, Year 3 had a school trip to Paignton Zoo!

Linked to our topic ‘cautious creatures’ the children explored the zoo, looking at the different animals. The children identified which animals were endangered and at risk of being extinct! In small groups, the children had a small session with a zoo keeper who showed them different animal skeletons. Overall, we had a fantastic day - the sun was shining and the children showed fantastic behavior. Well done Year 3!

Year 1- Looking after our world

In our PSHE lessons, we have been learning about how we can look after each other and our environment. As part of this, we have been looking at how we compost our fruit and vegetable waste in year 1 as well as clearing up litter around our school.
